Previous Work
This series was created as part of my second year Add+Vantage coursework. It was inspired by George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’, as an exploration of power, body image and the self. I used a luminous body paint to write a quote on my back from the novel; “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”. It makes reference to a pivotal moment in the book, in which power is divided among certain characters.
I wanted to relate Orwell’s theme’s with body image, to show the power relationship of appearance.I edited my chosen pieces in photoshop to blue hue. I imported my chosen peices to Photoshop and added a blue hue to them; similar to an X-Ray, this was done to help represent the notion that we are equal inside.
This series was shot with a low light setting, pointing the main flash against a wall to create a bounce back. I asked a friend to take the photographs after I was satisfied with the background, and framing.
